SignPlate
CularBytes has been approached to realize the idea of “SignPlate”. We became enthusiastic about this idea so we decided to develop it. The idea is to use a simple app to give someone else a compliment, warning or complaint by using the license plate of the car. So you can warn someone that their taillight doesn’t work or indicate that something is leaking under the car. Of course, anyone can add his (or her friends’) license plate to his or her favorites to stay up to date.
How are we looking back on this project?
In the end this project was stopped because Apple needed a lot of changes to get the app live in the Apple Store. This is due to the use of the phone while driving. Of course we had a lot of messages and warnings built in to prevent this from happening, which unfortunately couldn’t be enough. However, we look back on this positively, because this was the first app that CularBytes developed (Android + IOS), which taught us a lot about development and other business aspects!
What was needed?
This project started in 2015 by discussing the functionalities that we would develop in the first version. It was decided to focus on social aspects, so that more people will be on our platform as soon as possible. Think of following a license plate of a friend or family instead of just your own license plate. This includes a newsfeed in which all reactions to license plates can be seen. Of course this is the beginning and after that functionalities would be built that would create links with other platforms for commission related income.
How did we achieve this?
To start with, we have developed an API to store all data for tracking all responses, sending push notifications and authentication (with facebook login).
A native app was then developed in both Android and IOS. Several design iterations have gone over this as feedback from people in our network. Both apps were of course equipped with all the above mentioned functionalities.
In addition, on a non-technical level, we also worked together on matters such as marketing plan, setting up a company, making legal agreements, etc.
